As an executive with a national development firm, Susan Eastridge forged the strong public/private partnership with City of Albuquerque that was instrumental in this project’s feasibility and the subsequent development of this mixed-use landmark in downtown Albuquerque, New Mexico. Efforts to bring this development to fruition took over four years, culminating in its completion in 1990.
Albuquerque Plaza is a major mixed-use high rise development on the south side of the Civic Plaza in downtown Albuquerque. It consists of two distinctive towers connected at ground level by a two-story promenade. The taller of the two towers contains Class A office space (built to serve as the New Mexico headquarters for the regional telecommunications provider), while the shorter tower houses a 405-key Hyatt Regency hotel. The office tower, at a height of 351 feet, is the tallest building in the State of New Mexico. The hotel tower at 256 feet, is the second tallest building in the state. The height, color, and distinctive pyramidal roofs of the two towers make them the focal point of the Albuquerque skyline. The Hyatt Regency hotel serves as the headquarters hotel for Albuquerque’s convention center.
This project was awarded a $10 M UDAG/HUD grant, the largest such grant ever awarded in the Western United States by the federal government at that time.
